God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress. Psalm 48:3
A citadel is a fortress that commands something, usually a city. It is the stronghold and the place where all instruction and action comes from. The citadels that command us and where our actions come from are our brain and our heart. This verse tells us that God is there. When we commit our lives to him, he becomes the driving force. He is what keeps us going. When he becomes our focus and when we allow him to drive all of our thoughts and all the desires of our hearts to be in-line with his plans, our lives become secure. When God is in our citadels, at the very core of who we are, we no longer have to rely completely on ourselves. Because we know that his plan is what is best for us, we know we will not be overcome. There is great security in knowing that one greater than you is in control of the entire situation. There is great power in the promise and the reminder that the Lord is working in and around us. When we invite him into our lives and truly offer ourselves, a great change begins and continues for our entire lives. God takes over the command center and redirects us into the ways we are to go and into the ways we were born to go. When we relinquish control of our lives and allow him to change our selfish desires into ones that are pure and align with his plan we will find true happiness and fulfillment. We will have true security and strength. When we allow God to be our driving force and remember that he is a stronghold that never crumbles we will be able to move forward in power and in strength. We will be equipped to utilize the promise and strength and have a fearlessness that is of the Lord. When we invite him into the citadels of our lives- in our heart and in our mind, we are promised in this verse that he will prove to be our fortress. Already he shows himself to be a fortress because we are able to lie completely vulnerable before him. There is a beauty to the trust we have in the Lord. We are able to trust him because of his strength and his wisdom. He grants us discernment and healing. We can come to him completely burdened and broken without fear of being turned away for he is our fortress. Invite him into your citadel but don't stop there - invite him to take complete control and your fortress will protect and guide you for the rest of your life.
Dear Father,
We are guilty of rebelling and going our own way. We think we know all of the answers and we pray that you would forgive us of this pride. God help us to daily invite you to control our citadel and our command center. Be our focus and our driving force. You are a strong tower we can run to and you never turn us away. When the entire world casts us aside and curses us for our own foolishness, you are the first one and the only one beginning to wrap us in your arms. Your wisdom is sweet and your strength is astounding. You are worthy of all praise and are the perfect fortress. May glory always come to your name for you deserve it. Amen. |
