My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad; my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right. Proverbs 23:15-16
After being reborn in Christ, the Holy Spirit shapes our heart's desires from sinful ones to ones that revolve around pleasing the Lord. Our desire becomes to bring joy to him and to continually show him that the sacrifice of his son was not in vain. We want to please God but sometimes we don't know how or what pleases God most. We know that God is pleased when we refrain from temptation and we know he is pleased when we love others, but how can we make our actions and our hearts constantly please our Lord? How can we always please the Lord even when we are asleep? This verse tells us that we can make God glad by allowing his holy spirit to condition our hearts to wisdom.
This verse tells us that if our heart is wise, then God's heart will be glad. You gain wisdom by continually seeking the Lord and meditating over his word. You gain wisdom by asking God to show you and prepare your heart to be shown his wisdom. Once you have been taken out of darkness, we begin to replace the sin in our lives with his truth. When your ignorance begins to fade God's Holy Spirit will show you and help you to gain wisdom. He will show you how to daily walk in faith and through daily prayer and seeking you will be given wisdom. Once your heart is wise to the truth of Christ's sacrifice, even when at rest we can bring gladness to our father's heart. You can be glad knowing that since your heart is being made wise, God's heart is glad. The Lord loves to look at the work of his hands and see how it is being shaped into what he always meant for it to be. His heart is glad when we overcome the sin and ignorance of this world to seek the wisdom of him for our hearts. It takes more than just knowing the truth to please the Lord, but once we do know the truth and our hearts are wise we can do more than just make God glad. We can bring God's inmost being to rejoicing! Imagine being able to please the Lord so much that the inmost part of his glorious being can rejoice because of us. We can do this by speaking the truth. Speaking the truth doesn't mean just talking about the glory of Lord, it also means walking in the glory of the Lord. Our actions can speak volumes and when we walk and talk in the light the Lord has cast, we can make him rejoice. God is our father and in the same way that a parent rejoices when his child follows in the way of his instruction, God rejoices when we keep hold of his truth. You can combine your actions with words of truth to please the Lord. This could be witnessing to others about Jesus or simply speaking with the love of Christ behind your everyday greetings. Speaking the truth means refraining from lies but also it means allowing the wisdom our heart's have been shown to flow outward. When we share the truth and the wisdom we've been blessed with, God's inmost being rejoices. Imagine being able to please God's inmost being! We can do that by our actions and our thoughts and our words. God tells us quite simply how to please him and what makes him rejoice: seeing him in us and asking him to change us into what he wants us to be.
Dear Lord,
We pray that you will open our heart and change its desires to seeking your wisdom so that your heart might be blessed by how you've changed ours. Help us to speak the truth and let the love of your sacrifice be present in every act. Let your light shine through us and have your holy spirit guide our words so that we can please you. We thank you for your faithfulness and pray that you will be with us, take pleasure in us and help us to change the parts that aren't pleasing to you. Amen. |
